Information for New Families

First of all, welcome to MCA!  MCA is different from conventional schools in that we provide a classical, liberal arts education for our students.  Rather than focus on college and career ready, which is just career ready since college is a pass-through to a job, we focus on preparing the whole child for all of life. Although we do prepare our students for college and a career, our goal is above and beyond that limited view.  We aim to develop intelligent, virtuous citizens, who are well-read, well-spoken, and skilled writers. This education instills a love of learning, a moral uprightness, and a foundation for becoming all one can be. We prepare our students to be the best at whatever field they choose, whether it’s staying home to rear their own children or piloting the first spaceship to Mars.  Our courses, from kindergarten through twelfth grade, reflect this goal.  Our students work hard, but we have lots of fun along the way!  Again, welcome!

Although you’ll find this information elsewhere on our website, this page contains summarized helpful tips as your child begins his or her educational journey here.

Times:
Schools begins promptly at 8:00AM each day.  Students may be dropped off as early as 7:30 each day.
For lower school students in grades K-5, dismissal is at 2:45PM.
For upper school students in grades 6-12, dismissal is at 3:00PM.

Before and After School Care:
The Lion’s Watch, our before and after school care department, is available from 6:30 to 7:30 AM each school day and from 3:00 to 6:00 PM each afternoon.  The Lion’s Watch is also available on early dismissal days.  Visit our Lion’s Watch Info Page for pricing and more details.

Lunches:
Students may bring their own lunches, or they may purchase a lunch through our ordering system which connects with five local restaurants which deliver meals to the school.  Orders for delivered lunches are placed once monthly, and students are able to select which days they’d like to purchase a lunch.  Visit our Lunch Info Page for details on how to sign up.

Technology:
All upper school students are issued a school owned Chromebook.  Chromebooks are available for lower school students who need them for remote learning days.  Please email our IT Director if you need information about getting a school laptop.

Buses:
Although MCA gets no special funding to provide transportation, the school runs buses to Elkin, Dobson, Rural Hall, King, Pinnacle, and Pilot Mountain.  To request bus transportation, please complete a Bus Transportation Request Form and return it to our lower school office manager, or feel free to call the school at 336.789.7570.  You may also want to check out our bus schedule.
