MCA is on the leading edge of educational technology. At MCA, technology is neither the goal nor the focal point, but rather one important tool that helps to propel us toward our stated mission. Students are taught keyboarding, word- processing, database, research, spreadsheets, Power Point, web design, and videography as part of their technology specific instruction. In addition, students also learn many technical aspects through integrated lessons and special projects. One computer lab is found in the Elementary School wing, and is equipped with twenty-two Opti-Plex 170L PCs for students, one Dell Opti-Plex 170L teaching station, and one Apple e-Mac used for videography projects. A second computer lab is located in the Middle School wing, and is equipped for wireless access, and wired for direct network access if desired. This lab is available for student laptop use, and is also available for the community as a conference facility. |

There are two Dell Opti-Plex 170L PCs in every K-5 classroom, and all middle school students are equipped with Apple i-Book or Mac book laptops, the use of which is integrated into their daily studies in all subject areas. For more information about student laptops, visit our One To One Laptop Initiative page and review the MCA Laptop Acceptable Use Policy. All classrooms and labs have Interactive white boards, or SMART Boards, and all teachers are equipped with laptops to aid in planning and in lesson preparation. The MCA network is managed on two servers, and is connected to the Internet with broadband service. The network is protected by a firewall and a subscription based content filter to ensure safe computing for faculty and students. All grade levels share various digital cameras and digital video recorders for special projects and recording of notable events. Grade specific software is installed on classroom and lab computers. Middle school students use software text versions for some classes, such as Algebra. Software is installed on the local machine, at the network level, or accessed via the Internet. |
