Ann Moore - Middle School English Teacher  In 1982, Ann Moore earned a BS from Toccoa Falls College in Georgia with a double major in elementary education and Bible/theology. She minored in vocal music and history. She taught a variety of grade levels in Pennsylvania and Florida for a total of five years. She then took a reprieve from education to pursue a mini-career as a legal secretary in a prestigious law firm in Jacksonville, Florida. In 1997, she and her husband moved to North Carolina, where she took a job as a secretary in the law firm of Woltz, Lewis, and LaPrade. After one year, she resumed her education career at Westfield Elementary, where she taught fifth grade for two years. When Meadowview Middle opened, she moved to a sixth-grade position and stayed for the next nine years. During these years, she completed her M.A. in Middle School Language Arts while also completing her National Board Certification in the same area. She was later asked to take the literacy coach position offered by the state and did so. She trained with NCTA for three years before the state defunded the program. When the literacy coach position was finished, she was transferred to Central Middle, teaching seventh-grade English and then sixth-grade English. Bethany Shepherd - Middle School Math and Science Teacher  Bethany Shepherd completed her degree in Elementary Education at University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She graduated from ASU with a Master's Degree in Middle Grades science and in 2000 received National Board Certification. Christie Speer - Middle School Math Teacher  Christie Speer is MCA’s middle school math teacher. She was a NC Teaching Fellow at UNC-Greensboro, and she has a Master of Arts from ASU as a Curriculum Specialist. Cristy Plumback - Spanish teacher 
Cristy Plumback was born in the north of Mexico where her dad was a doctor and her mom owned a drugstore. She attended a bilingual then school in Mexico and earned a Bachelors Degree in Administration with a major in human resources and psychology. Mandy Haymore - Middle School Science Teacher  Before coming to MCA in 2011, Mandy Haymore spent six years teaching 8th grade math and science in Guilford County. Before that, she received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education from Florida State University, and her Masters in Middle School Curriculum and Instruction from the University of NC at Greensboro. Matthew Elder - Middle School Social Studies Teacher  Matt Elder comes to MCA from Tyrone, PA, where he attended the University of Pittsburg and received his Bachelor of Arts in History and English Writing. He received his Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Pittsburgh in early 2011, where he also served as a intern at Canon-McMillan Senior High School, teaching 12th grade honors Government and Economics. Pamela Braley - Middle School English & History Teacher, Middle School Dean of Students  After spending several years as a missionary in the Province of Quebec, Pam Braley graduated from Berkshire Christian College in Lenox, MA with a degree in Theology and Elementary Education. She has since earned a Master's degree in Instructional Technology from Appalachian State University, as well as National Board certification in 2001. She taught middle grades language arts and social studies in New Hampshire for ten years, then middle grades language arts and science in Alleghany County, North Carolina, for another ten years before coming to MCA in 2007. Paula Griffin - Middle School Teaching Assistant  Paula Griffin first joined MCA as a parent volunteer in 2004, and that position transpired to a full time teaching assistant in the MCA middle school in 2007. Although she is the "real" parent of her son, MCA student Banner, she claims all middle school students as her own! Paula, Banner, and her husband, Steve, reside in Mt. Airy. Pepper Rotenizer - Middle School Office Manager  Pepper Rotenizer is the Middle School Office Manager. She joined MCA in 2005 with experience in office administration from the Mt. Airy City School System. Mrs. Rotenizer greets students and visitors and handles all student and faculty lunch menus and orders, as well as many, many other miscellaneous tasks that come up every day. Mrs. Rotenizer enjoys music and singing and performs at various venues in the community. She has even produced a CD! Mrs. Rotenizer lives in Mt. Airy with her husband, Miles.
