Kirby McCrary - Headmaster

Kirby McCrary earned his undergraduate and first graduate degree from Appalachian State University in Spanish and education. Since then, he has earned a M.Ed. in education administration from UNC-Greensboro. Mr. McCrary came to MCA in 2002 with twenty-two years experience in both public and private education in grades kindergarten through twelve. Before coming to MCA, he served as the headmaster of a K-8 Christian school in Winston-Salem for six years. Before that, he taught in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System for ten years, and earlier he taught six years at Forsyth Country Day School in Lewisville, where he also coached wrestling

Lu Ann Browne - Director of Development; Director of IT

Lu Ann Browne is MCA's Director of Development, which is a position formed to promote understanding, acceptance, and support of the mission and philosophy of the school in the surrounding area. She loves her work because it allows her to present MCA to the community and prospective parents. With a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from UNC-Charlotte, Mrs. Browne is also Director of Information Technology, supporting MCA's technology infrastructure of desktops, laptops, interactive white boards, and AV equipment, another job she loves because she gets to "play" with technology every day. Before coming to MCA in 2005 to spend more time with her daughters, she worked in the IT department for USAirways as a computer programmer and projector director.

Pamela Braley - Middle School English & History Teacher, Middle School Dean of Students

After spending several years as a missionary in the Province of Quebec, Pam Braley graduated from Berkshire Christian College in Lenox, MA with a degree in Theology and Elementary Education. She has since earned a Master's degree in Instructional Technology from Appalachian State University, as well as National Board certification in 2001. She taught middle grades language arts and social studies in New Hampshire for ten years, then middle grades language arts and science in Alleghany County, North Carolina, for another ten years before coming to MCA in 2007. She and her husband reside in Hillsville, VA. She has four grown children and eleven grandchildren

Pepper Rotenizer - Middle School Office Manager

Pepper Rotenizer is the Middle School Office Manager. She joined MCA in 2005 with experience in office administration from the Mt. Airy City School System. Mrs. Rotenizer greets students and visitors and handles all student and faculty lunch menus and orders, as well as many, many other miscellaneous tasks that come up every day. Mrs. Rotenizer enjoys music and singing and performs at various venues in the community. She has even produced a CD! Mrs. Rotenizer lives in Mt. Airy with her husband, Miles.

Shanda Lawson - Administrative Assistant and Business Manager

Shanda Lawson is MCA's Administrative Assistant and Business Manager. She graduated from Surry Community College with an Associate's Degree in Office Technology, and worked fifteen years in an office environment at a local industry before becoming a stay-at-home mom for five years. Mrs. Lawson joined MCA in 2007. She lives in Mount Airy and is the proud mother of an MCA student.

Sherry Parker - Director of The Lion's Watch

Sherry Parker comes to MCA as the Director of The Lion’s Watch Before and After School Child Care program. Before helping start The Lion’s Watch in 2010, Mrs. Parker worked at Mayberry Learning Center in their MCA location. She is also the parent of an MCA student.

Steve Braune - Athletic Director

Coach B is a graduate of Appalachian State University wiith a BS in Healthful Living Education, and minors in history and PE. He serves MCA as Athletic Director and a physical education instructor. Before coming to MCA, Coach B previously taught healthful living education and athletics at the Outer Banks of NC. He has also worked as an Athletic Director in Wilkes County Schools. Coach B is a wrestling coach, golf enthusiast, and a proponent of all things athletic.

Tammy Simmons - Receptionist

Tammy Simmons is the MCA Receptionist. She joined MCA in 2007, but she's spent many hours working as a volunteer prior to that. Tammy attended Surry Community College and lives in Ararat, NC, with her husband Chris and two children. Tammy puts a fun and friendly voice on the phone for calls that come in, and she makes the Elementary Office a welcoming place for students, staff, and parents alike.
