Millennium Charter Academy Community |
"attuning" a student, which is an analysis of an individual student's strengths,
challenges, and affinities, to a comprehensive, family-driven sex education curriculum,
MCA strives to provide parents everything needed to educate their child. Millennium Charter Academy intentionally fosters an appreciation for our country and its citizens. The Student Leadership Council (for the elementary school) and the Presidential Leadership Council (for the middle school), groups founded on the idea of servant-leadership, often provide direction and the manual labor to accomplish tasks that benefit both the school community and the surrounding region. Models of patriotism are also held up before the student body, including soldiers proudly returning from a tour of duty and the daily recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. The faculty at MCA expands the classroom as far as is reasonable. Generally, every month each class takes one field trip related to the curriculum. Among others, these have included the Andy Griffith Playhouse, the Mt. Airy Regional Museum, a nearby bomb shelter, a medical science center in High Point, a train ride to the transportation museum in Spencer, the Asheboro Zoo, Hiddenite (to pan for minerals), Hanging Rock (for an overnight campout), a environmental park north of Raleigh (for a three day adventure in the outdoors), and the USS South Carolina (to spend the night on an aircraft carrier). The Academy takes an active part in the community. Our facility is available for use beyond the school day. Our students and faculty work diligently to provide contributions to various organizations, such as the children's home, the police department, Samaritan's Purse, the Salvation Army, the military, and others. To be good stewards of our environment, through the inspiring work of one parent, our school recycles paper, telephones, ink cartridges, plastic, and cardboard. Within the Academy itself, various groups work hard to develop and maintain good working relations. Consequently, parents, faculty, students, administration, MPACT (Millennium Parents and Concerned Teachers), and the Board of Directors are blessed, cooperatively supporting the school's mission and growth. Millennium Charter Academy also values our relationship with area schools and other institutions of learning. Although we may consciously approach and carry out education from a different point of view, we believe that MCA and other schools are all in the business of educating students to the best of our abilities. Even in the arena of friendly competition, we can encourage and profit from one another. Mount Airy and surrounding Surry County areas are a wonderful community to be part of. Millennium Charter Academy is established on three foundational pillars: scholarship,
character, and community. The latter belies our belief that relationships
are important, whether that relationship involves individuals or institutions.
"Community" also involves using this region as an expanded classroom.
We believe that parents are ultimately responsible for the rearing and education of their children, but with parental consent, during the school day, we stand en loco parentis. Our faculty and staff work diligently to assist and uphold parents in their responsibility to rear and educate their children. This is both a privilege and a responsibility that this staff and leadership take seriously. We are committed to offering families first-class, educational opportunities and various avenues through which they can share their expertise. From fine arts to |
