Beth Almy - 5th Grade Teaching Assistant

Originally from New York, Ms. Almy graduated from Mount Airy High School and attended St. Mary's and Surry Community College. She has seventeen years as a teaching assistant with the Mt. Airy school system before coming to MCA in 2005. She has four grown children and one granddaughter.

Claire Wilkerson - 5th Grade Teacher

Claire Wilkerson graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville where she earned a degree in psychology and a K-6 teaching license. She lives in Pilot Mountain and began teaching at MCA in 2007. In addition to teaching, she enjoys riding horses, playing golf, hiking, and traveling.

Jessica Simmons - 5th Grade Teacher

Jessica Simmons comes to MCA with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Lees-McRae College. At MCA she specializes in language arts for the fifth grade. She has a background in graphic design, and she loves art, reading, kayaking, and gardening. She and her husband live in Mount Airy, and they have three young children, Abby, Cassidy, and Sawyer.

Maria Kern - 5th Grade Teacher

A native of Michigan, Mrs. Kern teaches 5th grade social studies and science at MCA. She graduated from Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, MI, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. She is also endorsed to teach science K-8 and physical education K-12. She lives with her husband, David; daughter, Maya; and their dog, Bella, here in Mt. Airy.
