Board of Directors

Millennium Charter Academy is governed by an independent board of directors, who meet regularly at 5:30 PM on the third Tuesday of each month in the school's main office conference room.  This is an open meeting, and if you would like to be on the agenda, please see the headmaster in advance.

 


 

David Hiatt - Board Member

David Hiatt  David P. Hiatt, who was chair of Millennium's founding board, is a Surry County native.  He received a Bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He has practiced law in Mount Airy for twenty-one years.  Mr. Hiatt and his wife, Maria, are the parents of four children, two of whom are former MCA students.  They also have one grandchild.

Ed Woltz - Board Member

Ed WoltzEdwin M. Woltz grew up in Mount Airy and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received a BS degree in Business Administration. He attended Wake Forest School of Law and received a JD degree in 1983. Mr. Woltz has practiced law in Surry County since 1983 and serves as the Surry County Attorney. Mr. Woltz is a charter member of the MCA board of directors and had three children attend MCA, Bessie Rose, Moore and Osler. He is married to Ellen Young Woltz and resides in Mount Airy.

Erik Moledor - Board Member

Erik Moledor  Raised in Massillon, Ohio, Erik Moledor moved to North Carolina in1998 to attend Davidson College, where he earned a degree in mathematics and served as a football team captain.  He went on to graduate school at Duke University to study statistics. His professional life includes stints with Springs Industries (Fort Mill, SC), a textiles and home furnishings company, and with PriceWaterhouseCoopers (New York, NY) where he served as an international business consultant. After a move to Colorado, he left the professional world to become a stay-at-home father. In 2004, the Moledors relocated to Mount Airy where they currently reside.  Mr. Moledor homeschools his three children with help from his wife, Robyn.  He has served on the MCA Board of Directors since 2008.

Greg Marshall - Board Member

Greg MarshallGreg Marshall is a Mount Airy native and has served on the Board of Directors since 2002.   He received a Bachelor of Science from Gardner-Webb University and is a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Marshall is Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of John S. Clark Company, a General Contractor based in Mount Airy.   He and his wife, Lori, live in Mount Airy with their two sons, William and Robert who are students at MCA.   Having lived in Mount Airy all his life, Mr. Marshall is proud that MCA has made significant contributions to improve the quality of education in Surry County.

Hugh Campbell - Board Member

Hugh CampbellHugh Campbell, an attorney with Gardner, Gardner, and Campbell, has served on Millennium's Board of Directors since 2001. A graduate of Davidson College and Wake Forst University School of Law, Mr. Campbell holds numerous volunteer positions in his church and community, as well serving as Chairman of the Surry County Board of Elections.  He makes his home in Mount Airy with his wife, Susan Curtis Campbell, and their three chlldren, Will, Elizabeth, and Jack. Hugh Campbell sees MCA as a positive force for change within the public school system.

Ken Gwyn - Chairman of the Board

Ken Gwyn  Ken Gwyn has been a member of Millennium's Board of Directors since its inception in 2000 and currently serves as Chairman of the Board. He brings a wealth of business experience to this position as President of Triad Roofing Company since 1989 and CEO of The Bulldog Group, Inc. since 2008.  Ken is married to Kimberly Whitener Gwyn. His two daughters, now grown, attended MCA.

Marty Danley - Board Member

Marty Danley  Marty Danley received a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  He is currently employed with Information Technology Services for Hanesbrands Inc. in Winston Salem.  Mr. Danley lives in Ararat, NC with his wife, Annette, and son, William, who is an elementary student at MCA.

Renee Francis - Board Member

Renee Francis  Renee Francis is a Mount Airy native and graduate from North Surry High School.  Renee went on to earn her Associates in Science degree from Surry Community College, attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and graduate from Gardner Webb University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Since then, she has taken and enjoyed many continuing education classes. Her youngest child, Jordan, recently finished nine years at Millennium, attending kindergarten through the eighth grade. Always focusing on her love to educate children, she helps operate her family's preschool, which has been in business since 1947. Mrs. Francis has always been an active supporter of MCA, first serving as an active mom, then treasurer and later as president of MPACT (Millennium Parents and Concerned Teachers). One of Mrs. Francis' biggest desires is to see MCA continue to give the parents of this area a choice for superior academic standards in their child's education from kindergarten through the twelfth grade.

Susie Shipley - Board Member

Susie Shipley  Susie Shipley received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Utah and her Masters in Curriculum & Instruction from Temple University.  She taught elementary school for seven years.  The Shipley family moved to Mount Airy in 2008, where she rears her family, as well as works part-time in her husband's medical office at Mount Airy Foot & Ankle Center. Mrs. Shipley has a son in elementary school at MCA and a prescool-age daughter.
