Millennium Charter Academy - Capital Campaign

OVERVIEW:
MCA's Capital Campaign, "Building The Vision", began in June 2005. This campaign is literally building the future for the children of our community by funding the facility expansion of MCA from K-5 school to a K-8 school. The bulk of the funding for the expansion project comes from a loan from the US Department of Agriculture. The remaining need is being met through fundraising efforts. As of the beginning of the 2006/2007 school year, we have raised more than $ 1,000,000!! Thank you to everyone who has pledged and donated!

Numerous fundraising efforts continue to be underway. All nine members of MCA's Board of Directors pledged their support, and the faculty and staff are also actively supporting the effort. Even the students have been involved in various projects, individually and by class, donating the funds they raise to the capital campaign.

There are three phases to our expansion project. Phase One costs have been funded through a $4 million loan from the USDA, plus funds raised of $1.2 million for a total of $5,200,000. This reflects a $450,000 increase from original estimates. Phase Two estimates were originally targeted at $750,000, and Phase Three estimates were targeted at $1.5 million. However, due to circumstances beyond our control (for example, Hurricane Katrina) construction prices have risen sharply. Therefore, Phases Two and Three are expected to be somewhat higher than the original estimates. Nonetheless, we remain steadfast in our vision to raise the necessary funds to complete the entire expansion project.

COMPLETED ACTIVITIES:

* Third Grade donation of muffin morning proceeds from the 2005 and 2006 school years
* Fourth Grade donation of Frindle project proceeds, 2005
* First Grade donation of holiday gift making proceeds, 2005
* Third Grader Emma Cassell donation of proceeds from
            personally designed note cards sale.
* Third grade chocolate bake-off contest, 2005 and 2006
* Mrs. Vaughan and Ms. Snow auction of babysitting services,
            hosting a sleepover at the school for six students - twice!!
* Father Daughter Dance
* Gospel Explosion Concert in the park, featuring Melva Houston
* Plant sale by the 5th grade
* Family movie nights
