Board of Directors
Millennium Charter Academy is governed by an independent board of directors, who meet regularly at 5:30 PM on the last Tuesday of each month in the school’s main office conference room. This is an open meeting, and if you would like to be on the agenda, please see the headmaster in advance.

Marty Danley – Board Member
Marty Danley received a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is currently employed in Human Resources with HanesBrands in Winston-Salem as a HRIM Manager. Mr. Danley and his family live in Ararat, NC, and his son, William, is a student at MCA.
Renee Francis – Chairwoman of the Board
Renee Francis is a Mount Airy native and graduate from North Surry High School. Renee went on to earn her Associates in Science degree from Surry Community College, attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and graduate from Gardner Webb University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Since then, she has taken and enjoyed many continuing education classes. Her youngest child, Jordan, recently finished nine years at Millennium, attending kindergarten through the eighth grade. Always focusing on her love to educate children, she helps operate her family’s preschool, which has been in business since 1947. Mrs. Francis has always been an active supporter of MCA, first serving as an active mom, then treasurer and later as president of MPACT (Millennium Parents and Concerned Teachers). One of Mrs. Francis’ biggest desires is to see MCA continue to give the parents of this area a choice for superior academic standards in their child’s education from kindergarten through the twelfth grade.
Mark Hampton – Board Member
Mark grew up in King and left there to attend UNCG where he received a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy. After openly proclaiming to anyone who would listen that he could never live in King, he moved back in 1994 with wife Lara. They currently live at the foot of Sauratown mountain with their two MCA students Oscar and Wyn. Mark and Lara own and operate Hampton House Art & Framing in King and Winston-Salem and are thrilled to be a part of the MCA community.
David Hiatt – Board Member
David P. Hiatt, who was chair of Millennium’s founding board, is a Surry County native. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He has practiced law in Mount Airy for twenty-one years. Mr. Hiatt and his wife, Maria, are the parents of four children, two of whom are former MCA students. They also have one grandchild.
Lee Rierson – Board Member
Lee Rierson received a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Appalachian State University. He is currently employed at Renfro Corporation as Vice President of Sales Development. Lee also serves as CFO on his wife’s anesthesia business. Lee and Nancy Rierson have been supporters of MCA since 2007. Their two sons, Ashton and Bill Rierson attend MCA and the family resides in Mount Airy.
Susie Shipley – Board Member
Susie Shipley received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Utah and her Masters in Curriculum & Instruction from Temple University. She taught elementary school for seven years. The Shipley family moved to Mount Airy in 2008, where she rears her family, as well as works part-time in her husband’s medical office at Mount Airy Foot & Ankle Center. Mrs. Shipley has two children at MCA.
Christopher Willingham – Board Member
Christopher grew up in the Washington DC suburb of Bethesda, MD and came to North Carolina in 1991 to attend Davidson College. He has served as Vice President of YourOffice USA, a provider of on-demand office space and business services, since December 1999. He supports all aspects of their location development efforts, including the facility opening process, equipment platforms, technology and national accounts. He is also responsible for ongoing training, technology and operations support. Prior to this position, Christopher served in various other roles within YourOfficeUSA since the late 1990s, including Director of Research and Area Developer for North Carolina. Christopher resides on the Mitchell River in Mountain Park, North Carolina, with his wife and three children, two of whom currently attend MCA and the third recently graduated. He is also a published author and award-winning public speaker.
