Scholarship is one of the three driving forces in MCA’s mission. Millennium’s classical curriculum, based on Core Knowledge and North Carolina’s Common Core, is rich in great literature and the enduring ideas of history. Strong teachers, rich materials, and an environment conducive to learning all blend to provide Millennium students with a solid educational foundation.
The impact of a Millennium Charter Academy education extends far beyond the walls of the school as our students participate and win in academic competitions at the regional, state, and national level.

A Sense of Community
Students study case law and participate in mock trial in a real courtroom in this competition sponsored by Law Related Education, an outreach of the North Carolina Bar Association.
Also sponsored by the outreach of the North Carolina Bar Association, this contest requires students to examine a problem that is a matter of public policy, research all possible solutions, and agree upon a solution that can be implemented practically. Presentations are then made in Raleigh, where they are judged.
Patriots’ Pen Essay Contest
The Veterans of Foreign Wars sponsors an annual essay contest in which children write on a patriotic theme. We are proud to have had both regional and state winners in this competition.
Letters about Literature Contest
Sponsored by the National Library Association, this contest requires students to write a letter to an author in which they explain how the author’s book impacted their lives. MCA had a national winner in this contest in 2011.
Scripps-Howard National Spelling Bee
In 2010, a Millennium student participated in the national bee in this classic spelling competition. For several years, Millennium has hosted the regional contest for charter schools.
National Geographic Geography Bee
With an astounding array of geographic questions, the National Geographic Society challenges students to know their world.
North Carolina Science and Engineering Fair (NCSEF)
Science fair is a grand tradition at Millennium, and we consistently have students who win at the state level.
NC Science Olympiad (NCSO)
An array of competitions in every area of science, from building to baking to biology, awaits students at the Science Olympiad. This fun-filled competition builds teamwork as well as brain work.
Through this national enrichment, club, and competition program, students have the opportunity to showcase their strengths in mathematics.
North Carolina Student Academy of Science (NCSAS) Research Competition
The NCSAS invites students to write a paper on the research completed at science fair and to present the paper to a panel of scientists. Millennium students always fare well in this competition.
National History Day
Students complete original research on historical topics of interest, and the research projects are entered into competition at the local and regional levels, and ultimately state and national levels. Projects may include original dramatic works, papers, and videos.
